Before the Fire™ — Helping families recognize the signs of change before a crisis forces difficult decisions.
Heather Harvey, OTR/L, has spent nearly 30 years helping older adults and their families navigate the challenges of aging, independence, and change.
Through Before the Fire™, she helps families recognize concerns early, understand what they are seeing, and create a plan before a crisis forces difficult decisions.
Independent. Objective. Family-Focused.
Heather does not work for a hospital, home care agency, hospice, or placement service. Her role is to help families make informed decisions with clarity and confidence.
OT-Informed guidance rooted in real-life experience
About Heather
For nearly 30 years, I have worked alongside older adults and their families in home health, hospice, and senior care.
Over the years, I’ve learned something important:
Most families don’t miss the crisis.
They miss the subtle changes that appear months—or even years—before it.
The unopened mail.
The missed medications.
The forgotten appointments.
The parent who slowly stops doing the things they once loved.
By the time a crisis occurs, families are often forced to make difficult decisions under pressure, with limited information and strong emotions.
That’s why I created Before the Fire™—a framework designed to help families recognize the early signs of change, understand what they are seeing, and create a plan before an emergency forces the conversation.
As an independent consultant, I do not work for a hospital, home care agency, hospice, or placement service. My recommendations are based solely on what is best for you and your family.
Whether you are an adult child worried about a parent, a long-distance caregiver, or someone who simply wants to plan ahead, I provide practical guidance, objective insight, and trusted community resources to help you move forward with clarity and confidence.
My role is simple: to help you understand your options, protect independence whenever possible, and create a plan for what comes next.
